CCAR Sponsors Seminar on Rights and Responsibilities of Landlords and Tenants
Free Seminar on Feb. 7th
The Champaign County Association of REALTORS® will host a seminar “Source of Income Overview and Rights and Responsibilities of Landlords and Tenants” on February 7th from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public and will be held at the CCAR headquarters office at 305 Burwash Avenue in Savoy.
Registration is required by Feb. 1.
Landlords, REALTORS® and other members of the community are invited to attend this informational and timely seminar featuring six expert panelists who will answer the most asked questions about housing choice vouchers, the new Source of Income law, the inspection process, the timeline of the eviction process and rights and responsibilities of renters.
“The Champaign County Association of REALTORS® is hosting this free event by providing landlords with critical information that can protect them against possible violations,” said PJ Trautman, president of the Champaign County Association of REALTORS®. “A new state law is now in effect that includes a new ‘Source of Income’ protected class under the Illinois Human Rights Act. Illinois law prohibits discrimination to any member of any protected class by refusing to engage in a real estate transaction, altering terms or conditions to deny or limit housing based on membership in a protected class, refusal to negotiate with a person in a protected class, or to represent that a property is not available to inspect, sell or lease to members of protected class.”
