Two Champaign area REALTORS® were part of a delegation of Illinois REALTORS® who attended MIPIM, in Cannes, France, one of the largest international real estate conferences in the world. Attending MIPIM from the Champaign were:
· Matt Difanis, co-owner of RE/MAX Realty Associates with offices in Champaign, Mahomet and Monticello. Difanis is the 2017 President-elect of Illinois REALTORS®.
· Alex Ruggieri, Senior Investment Advisor for SVN-Ramshaw Real Estate in Champaign and current chairman of the National Association of REALTORS® Commercial Leadership Forum and chairman of the Illinois REALTORS® Global Working Group.
REALTORS® spent four days meeting real estate investors from throughout the world at the conference held at the Palais des Festivales in Cannes, France. Illinois REALTORS® provided information on the state and its many investment opportunities. Joining the Illinois REALTOR® state delegation this year was Jim Schultz, co-founder and CEO of Intersect Illinois, a public-private partnership economic development organization whose mission is to promote and expand Illinois business interests. Illinois Association members attending the event also have a mission to make sure international investors know the power of the REALTOR® brand when they look to invest in Illinois.
This is the third year Illinois REALTORS® have taken part in the MIPIM Conference.
More than 24,000 real estate and city leaders from 100 countries including 5,000 investors and financial institutions participated in the conference.
“The diversity of projects represented at MIPIM from all around the world is quite incredible,” said Alex Ruggieri “This conference gives an inside look at some of the investment projects that are happening whether in office developments, retail, logistics, hotel and tourism or residential, the opportunities for investors to diversify their portfolios is wide open. The conference offers those attending to make connections and introductions that have the opportunity to make deals happen in the future.”
In the midst of political change, fueled by the U.S. presidential elections, the Brexit vote, elections in France, Germany and the Netherlands—accelerating tech innovations and a growing global urban population, MIPIM Chose the New Deal for Real Estate as its central theme, providing industry leaders and investors with the opportunity to discuss evolving real estate strategies.

According to Cushman & Wakefield, the amount of new capital available for global real estate investments stands at $435 billion—The United States is a leading target for investors, followed by China and United Kingdom.
One segment of the conference also demonstrated how the tech industry is moving into real estate, through such methods as crowdfunding, big data, virtual reality, smart cities and smart buildings.
MIPIM 2018 will take place on March 13-16, 2018 in Cannes, Frances.
